10 Wonderkids with new homes in Football Manager 2024
Football Manager 2024 is now upon us and while as always there are a host of new features and additions to look forward to, a new game means new wonderkids and new save ideas to think about.
To help guide you in the direction of a new club for your first save adventure, here’s MaddFM's look at 10 players who find themselves with new homes after clearly impressing real-life clubs and scouts alike last season.
They’re also going to be ones to watch in FM24, so let's look into where those familiar players have headed to this season.
Iván Fresneda (Sporting CP)
Reportedly highly coveted during the summer transfer window, it was Sporting CP who eventually landed the signature of Spanish full-back Ivan Fresneda in what could be one of the smartest pieces of recruitment in the coming seasons.
Fresneda was one of the go-to right-backs in FM23 and with good reason - equally capable at Full-Back or Wing-Back and blessed with bags of potential, he was already a ready-made starter even at 18-years-old with good Pace, Determination, Positioning, Anticipation, Marking, Tackling, Work-Rate and Stamina.
In FM24 we see the Inverted Full-Back role introduced for the first time, a role which offers width to the attack while also looking to tuck inside after the build-up phase acting more like an additional central defender. To my thinking, Fresneda seems a great option for you to explore the role with.
Elye Wahi (RC Lens)
Another popular wonderkid in FM23, Elye Wahi has enjoyed a successful and rapid rise in France over the past couple of years. Last season saw the young striker rack up 19 goals and 6 assists for Montpellier – enough to earn him a big move to a RC Lens side that finished second in Ligue 1 Uber Eats and booked a return to the UEFA Champions League.
In FM24, Wahi’s development is recognised with great Attribute scores for all of the key things you want a striker to have – Pace, Acceleration, Off the Ball, Composure, Finishing, Dribbling and Technique.
At just 20 years old, Wahi looks set to hit the ground running from the off while having a huge ceiling for improvement as your careers progress.
Yunus Musah (AC Milan)
Another midfield wonderkid who many of you have turned to in recent versions of FM, Yunus Musah’s consistent showings for club and country led to AC Milan making him one of their top transfer priorities this past summer.
Highly versatile with very well-rounded Physical, Mental and Technical Attributes, Musah is equally capable both defensively and in a more attacking midfield role. That gives you tremendous flexibility as a manager depending on how you want to set up your midfield, particularly with this year’s changes to enable more positional play
With close to 30 international caps for the USA already, it’s clear that Musah has a huge future ahead of him among football’s elite.
Abakar Sylla (RC Strasbourg)
Although he may have flown under the radar a bit in FM23, we suspect that many of you are going to know all about defender Abakar Sylla very soon in FM24.
The 20-year-old Ivorian only made his professional debut last season but his performances for Club Brugge were enough for RC Strasbourg to reportedly make him their record signing this summer.
Strong, mobile and good in the air, Sylla is also left-footed, which immediately makes him all the more valuable. In FM24, what stands out most are his Mental Attributes – 16 Bravery, 18 Aggression and 19 Leadership make him the perfect person to build a rock-solid backline around.
Tiago Tomás (VfL Wolfsburg)
Portuguese strikers are always worth keeping an eye on in FM and if you’re anything like us, Tiago Tomás has definitely been on many of your shortlists over the past few versions.
Another product of the famed Sporting CP academy, Tomás broke into and scored for the first team at just 18-years-old and has been regularly capped at U17, U18, U19 and U21 level for his national side. After an 18-month loan spell in the Bundesliga, VfL Wolfsburg snapped him up permanently and he’s already made an impression with three goals in his first eight games.
In FM24, Tomás is lightning quick and has excellent Work-Rate, Aggression and Determination Attributes; ideal for a Pressing-Forward who likes to try beat the offside trap and who knows where the goal is. With fellow FM favourites Lovro Majer and Joakim Mæhle also joining Tomás through the Volkswagen Arena doors over the summer, VfL Wolfsburg make more a very interesting save option when you’re firing up FM24.
El Bilal Touré (Atalanta)
Having shown a consistent ability to provide goals and assists in both France and Spain, El Bilal Touré reportedly became Atalanta’s most expensive transfer signing this summer. Given his physical and technical strengths combined with Atalanta’s playing style and preferred choice of striker, he could be a perfect addition to the Bergamo side.
Touré has excellent Pace, Acceleration, Stamina and Strength in FM24 combined with good First Touch and Technique, meaning he offers an intriguing prospect when running the channels and finding space. At 6’1” (186cm) tall he also offers a significant aerial threat as evident by his Heading and Jumping Reach, meaning he’s a potentially useful option to experiment with using the newly refreshed Set Piece Creator.
João Pedro (Brighton & Hove Albion)
João Pedro has gone from strength to strength in recent seasons and having already shown his class at the top level (and in previous editions of FM), it’s no surprise that scouting supremos Brighton & Hove Albion snapped him up.
The highly versatile forward has already repaid some of their faith with five goals in 11 appearances across all competitions this season, including three already in the Seagulls’ maiden UEFA Europa League campaign.
Pedro is not only quick and athletic but also possesses excellent technical and creative ability as evident by his strong Dribbling, First Touch, Technique, Flair and Vision attributes. Combine these with strong Determination and Work-Rate and we are looking at a highly effective forward option who, at 21, has bags of room to develop and improve over time.
Benjamin Šeško (RB Leipzig)
We couldn’t talk about wonderkids at new clubs without mentioning this man, could we? Benjamin Šeško has been a go-to transfer in recent editions of FM – the Slovenian was bought more than 190,000 times in FM23.
On the pitch, he continues to meet and exceed expectations in terms of his playing potential and goal-scoring ability. With a transfer to RB Leipzig already arranged since the beginning of the 2022/2023 season, it’s no surprise that he has already started to break into the first team with an early goal-return of five goals in his first 10 appearances across all competitions.
Unsurprisingly, he continues to be a powerful and high-potential forward option in FM24, particularly looking at his physique, speed, aerial threat, off the ball movement and his overall technique and finishing ability. At just 20 years old he is already a frightening prospect to come up against in-game, so why not put his enormous talents at your disposal by starting a career with RB Leipzig?
Šeško wasn’t the only Wonderkid to walk through the doors of the Red Bull Arena this past summer, with midfielder Nicolas Seiwald and defender Castello Lukeba also players to watch out for in FM24.
Jérémy Doku (Manchester City)
Long-time FM fans won’t have been remotely surprised to see Jérémy Doku make such a flying start to life at Manchester City.
At his best on the left cutting in, what set the two-footed Belgian winger apart during his previous spells in Belgium and France was his raw speed and his natural dribbling ability with the ball at his feet.
Doku’s intelligent movement is well replicated in FM24 thanks to our changes to positional rotations and his Likes to Beat Opponent Repeatedly Trait.
Bertuğ Yıldırım (Stade Rennais)
From one player that left Stade Rennais in the summer to one that arrived, Turkish forward Bertuğ Yıldırım is one to watch in FM24.
Tall and strong, Yıldırım’s equal proficiency at playing Target Forward and Pressing Forward in FM24 offers managers real tactical flexibility. His First Touch and Finishing Attributes, meanwhile, point to a player with an instinctive feel for where the goal is and making the most of every opportunity.
The 21-year-old isn’t the finished product yet but moving to a club playing UEFA Europa League football and a reputation for developing young talent certainly bodes well for his future in the years to come.
There we have it, 10 wonderkids who find themselves with new homes in Football Manager 2024. We’re expecting big things from them all this season in-game and on the real-life stage – let us know which ones you’re going to be managing this year on social media @FootballManager.
